RN to BSN Online Programs Are Becoming More Commonplace

One of the greatest innovations available today is the online transition from being an RN to a BSN. This opportunity is designed for the RN to pursue a bachelor's degree and keep their job in the meantime. Because the U.S. economy has not bounced back from where it was before, can anyone really afford to not work?

Because the market for this line of work has become exceedingly popular, there are now more than 200 RN to BSN programs offered. For the convenience of the students, most institutions affiliated with the RN to BSN online program provide online courses. For those working, especially parents, taking online courses are the common route.

What is the difference between an RN and a BSN? An RN is a registered nurse, while a BSN has a bachelor's degree. People shouldn't get discouraged for not understanding the lingo right away because they could always, and easily, pick up on it.

Enrolling in an RN program to become a licensed nurse as quickly as possible have the opportunity to enroll themselves in an RN program typically offered at vocational schools and a local community college. The nursing basics are completed in a short two years. A graduate of this 2-year course is called an RN, a licensed nurse and may be employed as a full-time nurse in hospitals, clinics or hospices.

An LPN is a Licensed Practical Nurse, who is just beneath an RN. A practical nurse is like a nursing assistant or orderly, who is responsible to help a nurse in the more menial tasks. Doctors need the help from nurses, just like nurses need the help from nursing assistants.

In order to become a BSN nurse, one must enroll in and complete the required four-year nursing program. This is normally offered in universities and nursing colleges. Although the jobs are closely related between an RN and a BSN, only a BSN has more responsibilities and opportunities.

To become a BSN, one must have more schooling and gain more knowledge and expertise in the field, which will ultimately give them a higher salary than an RN. Only those who hold a BSN can be granted certain promotions that an RN is ineligible for, such as becoming a lecturer, supervisor, manager, or a department manager. A BSN nurse can go on to earn a MSN (Master's in nursing) and a PhD.

What does an RN to BSN program entail? This is a program that is available to RNs who are interested in advancing in their area of expertise but need the education, knowledge, and training to make it a reality. Included in this program are training courses for both clinical and non-clinic work, which are courses not previously taken by an RN.

RN to BSN programs vary between institutions that offer the training. This is to strive for as many specializations as possible for those in the medical field, thus opening more doors for RNs. Some programs available are Family Nurse Programs, Nurse Anesthetics Programs, Clinical Nurse Specialist Programs, etc.

"Online" means what, exactly? Like many online courses that are taken via the worldwide web, RN and BSN online courses may have days where it is mandatory for the student to visit the campus for certain projects and class discussions. Typically, though, these courses are completed online, giving students the freedom to come-and-go as they please throughout the day and get the work done when they have the time.
